The manufacturing industry is at a major turning point as global markets continue to change. Additionally, the medical and health-related market is expected to be one of the largest growth markets. However, the tendency to create value only as an extension of existing technologies makes it difficult to generate innovations that open up entirely new markets. Today, digital transformation (DX) has attracted worldwide attention, where corporate strategies are developed based on digital technologies, including AI and data science. The adoption of DX and the utilization of data science are also giving rise to entirely new research methodologies. Therefore, we have pioneered a DX-based research approach for health technology, one of the greatest growth markets. This approach generates research ideas by analyzing diverse datasets, including medical big data from Kyushu University Hospital and purchase data from major supermarket chains. In collaboration with companies across multiple sectors, we have launched an Open Science Platform (OSP). Within the OSP, participating companies and researchers and students at Kyushu University share big data in an open environment. The OSP serves as a platform for creating innovations from data-driven ideas. In the future, we plan to expand to include more companies and local governments, increase available data, and establish an industry-government-academia collaboration system that enables the efficient creation of innovations.
