About

Message from Dean

The history of the School of Engineering at Kyushu University dates back to 1911, when the College of Engineering of Kyushu Imperial University was established in Hakozaki, Fukuoka. In 1919 it became the Faculty of Engineering of Kyushu Imperial University, and in 1947 it was reorganised as the School of Engineering of Kyushu University. For more than a century, we have played a leading role in engineering education and research in western Japan, and many of our graduates have assumed leadership roles both in Japan and internationally. Building on this long tradition, we continue to educate engineers and researchers who can contribute to an increasingly dynamic and global society.

To support the development of such talent, we offer a range of distinctive programmes. These include international exchange and training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as an international course conducted entirely in English. We also support student-led manufacturing activities through the Creative Engineering Studio and promote entrepreneurship education to foster a global outlook and the ability to lead innovation.

More than twenty years have passed since the School began relocating from Hakozaki to the Ito Campus, which now serves as the centre of our educational and research activities. In this advanced and vibrant research environment, we aim to build a new tradition while carrying forward the legacy cultivated over many decades.

We warmly welcome international students to our graduate programmes. With a diverse research community and laboratories covering a wide range of engineering fields, students from around the world can pursue advanced research and collaborate with leading researchers and fellow students. As part of a leading research university in Japan, the School provides an environment where innovative research and international collaboration can flourish.

We are committed to advancing engineering education and research that contribute to the sustainable development of society. Together with our students and staff, we will continue striving for educational and research excellence recognised worldwide.
